HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID Reliable fine screening with maximum separation efficiency

  • Maximum retention of fibres and hair
  • Operating reliability for membrane bioreactors
  • Maximum COD / BOD5 reduction rates

Mechanical pretreatment is crucial for both municipal and industrial wastewater, as it efficiently removes coarse materials and separates floating, settling, and suspended solids, ensuring effective downstream treatment.

Depending on the wastewater treatment method used, the mechanical pretreatment system must meet varying requirements for separation efficiency.

For advanced systems such as Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) plants, the mechanical pretreatment must remove all coarse materials, as MBRs are highly sensitive to contaminants that could clog or damage the membranes.

A cost-efficient solution must not only achieve the required separation performance but also provide high throughput capacities while ensuring maximum operational reliability, reducing maintenance needs and operational costs.

Design and Function

Design sketch: HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID for channel installation
Design sketch: HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID for channel installation

The HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID is characterized by its horizontally installed screen basket, which is positioned either in a channel or a tank. Wastewater flows through the basket from the inside to the outside. As the wastewater enters the screen basket from the open front, solids are retained within the drum. A specially designed seal between the channel and the front-end opening of the screen basket ensures that no unscreened wastewater bypasses the screen, guaranteeing effective solids retention and optimal filtration.

As solids accumulate on the drum surface of the HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID, the screen gradually becomes blinded, causing a rise in the water level upstream. When the predefined maximum water level is reached, the screen basket begins rotating around its axis to clean the surface. A spray nozzle bar at the top of the drum sprays water onto the drum surface from the outside, effectively removing the solids and flushing them into a trough inside the drum. The screenings are then discharged by gravity. As an option, the screenings can be pumped to a higher level for further processing or disposal.

High-Pressure Cleaning

For effective preventive maintenance, the HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID can be equipped with an optional innovative automatic high-pressure cleaning system. The system includes a rotating spray nozzle head that moves linearly along the entire length of the screen basket, ensuring thorough and efficient cleaning. The water pressure causes the nozzle head to rotate, providing consistent cleaning coverage across the full surface. This system significantly reduces water consumption and minimizes operator involvement, making it both cost-effective and low-maintenance.

Reliable Sealing

The performance of any system heavily depends on its sealing, especially at the inlet. To ensure optimal separation and prevent unscreened wastewater from bypassing the screen, the HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID features a specialized PU (polyurethane) sealing. This high-quality seal guarantees that only properly screened wastewater passes through, ensuring consistent and reliable separation results throughout the system's operation.

Low-Maintenance Direct Drive

The HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID is designed with a unique, self-adjusting bearing unit that allows the drum to be mounted stress-free, with automatic angle compensation. This innovative design reduces wear and tear, ensuring smooth operation. Additionally, the bearings are automatically lubricated, minimizing the need for manual maintenance and enhancing the system's reliability and availability over time. This low-maintenance direct drive system contributes to reduced downtime and long-lasting performance.
