[...]Australia & Indonesia A personal approach to customers, technical advice and reliable service are key factors in the long-term operation of systems and the satisfaction of our customers. That is why HUBER invests in regular service consultant tours worldwide to support operators directly on site, identify opportunities for optimization and strengthen personal interaction. As part of these service activities, our HUBER service consultant Martin Burger spent three weeks in Indonesia and Australia from mid-May to early June 2026. Together with the regional HUBER partners, he visited numerous existing customers, inspected systems, trained operators and discussed service and maintenance issues. Three intensive days in Indonesia The service consultant tour in Indonesia was coordinated by HUBER Technology Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd in Singapore. HUBER has been working closely with its local partner, PT. Grahadika Adipurnajasa, for many years. The tour began in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. During the customer visits, Martin Burger was accompanied by Fabian Kana from HUBER Service Malaysia, as well as Grahadika staff members Jaya and Momo. The tour included visits to various facilities in the Greater Jakarta area. Among the sites visited were Soekarno Hatta, Sumur Batu, Cideng and Cikokol, as well as several HUBER Coarse Screen TrashMax® installations in Jati Pinggir. A key focus was the training of operational staff. At the Soekarno Hatta plant, staff received comprehensive training in the operation and maintenance of the installed HUBER machinery. The direct exchange enabled questions to be clarified immediately and provided valuable guidance on safe plant operation. Working alongside Hydroflux with customers in Australia Following the first service consultant tour in 2023, Martin Burger was back on the road in Australia to visit customers alongside HUBER’s long-standing partner, Hydroflux Pty Ltd, and to support them with service and maintenance issues. Hydroflux, headquartered in Sydney, is one of Australia’s leading companies in the field of water and wastewater technology. Throughout the tour, Martin Burger was accompanied by Stewart Harris, who manages HUBER services at Hydroflux, from customer advice and spare parts and service quotations to repairs and on-site service calls. The team spent the first week in the Brisbane region of Queensland. Amongst other sites, they visited the wastewater treatment works at Noosa, Kawana, Maroochydore, Bribie Island, Luggage Point, Karana Downs and Lowood, as well as major industrial companies in the region. Discussions focused on plant optimization as well as service and maintenance issues. Customers particularly appreciated the joint visit by Hydroflux and a service consultant from Germany. Many operators took the opportunity to discuss technical issues directly with the experts. Further highlights included attending OZWATER in Brisbane, Australia’s largest trade fair for water and wastewater technology, and a visit to the famous Nepalese Peace Pagoda with Hydroflux colleagues Chee Terng Lee and Daniel Potente. The structure is one of Brisbane’s most significant cultural landmarks. There is a special story behind the bell installed there: Traditionally, Hydroflux rings it whenever a major contract is secured. It was last rung following the successful signing of the contract for the ‘Riverstone’ project involving a HUBER Belt Dryer BT. Weekend in Sydney Martin Burger spent the weekend in Sydney. During his stay, the internationally renowned Vivid Sydney Festival was taking place there – Australia’s largest festival of light, music, ideas and cuisine. The spectacular light installations along the harbor and at the world-famous Sydney Opera House were particularly impressive. The combination of modern light art and a unique backdrop made the visit a special experience. The following week saw a continuation of customer visits in the Sydney area, including to the Farley STP, Tanilba Bay, Burwood Beach, Paxton, Goulburn, Bowral STP and Moss Vale STP sites. Here, too, it was clear just how much customers appreciate the joint presence of Hydroflux and HUBER. Many operators took the opportunity to engage in in-depth technical discussions and consultations directly on site. Another key focus was the consultation at the West Camden sewage treatment works. Here, opportunities for plant optimization and future service activities were discussed. Personal service as a key to success The service consultant tour has once again demonstrated the great importance of personal contact with customers and operators. The combination of local support from HUBER’s long-standing partners and direct technical discussions with a service consultant from Germany was very well received in both Indonesia and Australia. The on-site discussions strengthened existing customer relationships, highlighted potential for optimization and provided valuable impetus for future projects. At the same time, the visits highlighted the added value of close cooperation between HUBER, its local partners and the plant operators. The tour underlines the importance of a strong international service network and the HUBER Global Service Team for the long-term support of our customers. [...]Continuous screening, dewatering and transport of coarse material in one operation Removal of coarse material from municipal sludge and industrial process water The STRAINPRESS® is a horizontal cylindrical coarse material separator which consists of inlet and screening zone, press zone, and a discharge section. It is used for liquid sludge screening or filtration of service or process water under pressure. The system does not need any wash water as backwashing of the screen is unnecessary. The perforation and design of the screw shaft are individually adjusted to optimally suit specific requirements. Design and Function A pump forces the unscreened liquid through the screening zone and delivers the screened liquid to subsequent processing stages. Coarse material trapped on the cylindrical screen is removed by a coaxial screw, which then moves it to the press zone for thorough compaction and dewatering. The screw activates only when pressure sensors detect a differential pressure resulting from screen surface clogging. The compacted material is then forced through a gap surrounding a hydraulically operated pressure cone, which partially closes the pipe end to create counterpressure. This counterpressure is automatically adjusted, inversely proportional to the load on the screw motor, to ensure efficient operation. Easy maintenance The complete casing, perforated plate and screw shaft of the HUBER Sludgecleaner STRAINPRESS® are made of corrosion-resistant 1.4307 (AISI 304L) stainless steel. The screw flights are reinforced with tungsten carbide for wear protection. The machine can be split in the middle and one half of the machine moved for maintenance. [...]By generating electricity and heat from digester gas, operators of wastewater treatment plants with anaerobic sludge stabilisation can generate energy themselves, and thus significantly reduce the purchase of external energy and consistently and sustainably lower their operating costs. Under suitable conditions, by feeding external and organic-rich waste (co-substrates) into the digester, gas and thus energy production can even be increased to the point of energy self-sufficiency. Typically, liquid waste from the food industry or catering (such as grease separator contents or flotate sludge) is delivered, processed and fed into the digester. Sustainably improving digestion processes and gas production In order to sustainably improve the digestion process or gas production through co-substrates, as well as to protect mixing and conveying units and the downstream sludge dewatering system, foreign materials contained in the substrate must be removed and coarse solids must be broken up. Typical materials and coarse solids are: Fibrous materials, textiles Stones, metals Plastics Possible effects of insufficient removal of impurities are: Wear on pumps and dewatering units Blockages in pipeline installations Blockages, floating ceilings and deposits in the fermenter Reduced or unstable gas yields Restrictions in the treatment of filtrate water and digested sludge Proven for over 20 years: the HUBER Sludgecleaner STRAINPRESS® For the removal of contaminants from sludge, the HUBER Sludgecleaner STRAINPRESS® has proven its worth for more than 20 years. The STRAINPRESS® is a horizontal cylindrical screen for continuous separation and dewatering of foreign matter. It is divided into an inlet and screening zone plus a compaction and discharge zone. A pump conveys the unscreened sludge through the screening zone and presses the screened sludge for further treatment. The coarse material retained on the cylindrical screen is stripped off by a coaxial screw and pushed through the compaction zone where the material is pressed and dewatered. The screw operates only when the pressure sensors detect a differential pressure caused by screen surface blinding. The foreign matter is pushed through a gap around a hydraulically actuated jam cone, which partially closes the end of the tube and builds up counterpressure. The counterpressure of the cone is automatically regulated inversely proportional to the load of the screw drive. Individual adaptation for throughputs from 5 to 150 m³/h raw sludge Proven options such as screen perforation sizes between 2 mm and 10 mm as well as individual designs of the compaction zones allow the machine to be adapted to different properties of the raw sludge and the screenings. Experience has shown that the HUBER coarse material separator can achieve specific separation capacities of 1 to 10 kg screenings per m³ raw sludge (dewatered to approx. 40%). Due to pump feeding and the closed screening process, even non-hygienised sludges and substrates can be treated without health hazards for the operating personnel. Complete removal of coarse material for significantly increased operational safety Often alternatively used macerators only macerate coarse material – inert and abrasive contaminants as well as fibres, however, remain in the substrate and can cause the negative effects mentioned above. In contrast, the HUBER Sludgecleaner STRAINPRESS® removes the coarse material completely from the process, thus ensuring significantly higher operational reliability in the downstream process stages.[...]
[...]Bayreuth, Germany and Lomianki, Poland HUBER solar sludge drying system with sludge feeding and removal on the same gable end – the feed comes back as dry sludge HUBER SE has continued the success story of its solar sludge drying system in 2014. Like on many other sites, whether in Europe or overseas, the SRT system convinced also the customer at Bayreuth in Bavaria and was the winner of the tender competition. The decisive point in favour of the HUBER SRT was that its concept ensured clever use of the scarce space on site. Feeding of the press/wet sludge and removal of the dry granulate takes place on the same gable end of the greenhouse. This allows to realize a sludge treatment solution with compact installation of all plant equipment in one place. Such a solution also minimises space demand and soil sealing. Furthermore, it is not necessary to build roads and turning round areas. The SRT system with its 'one-way-road' design is also the winner of the tender for the project Lomianki in Poland near Warsaw. This project comprises of two SRT 11 drying lines on an area of approx. 2,000 m², while five drying lines of size SRT 11 are installed at Bayreuth on an area of nearly 7,000 m². Already several years ago HUBER SE successfully tested sludge feeding and removal at the same gable end with the SRT sludge turner. The concept was for the first time implemented in 2008, on STW Marktbergel. The double-shovel sludge turner transports the sludge through the greenhouse while the sludge is drying. Pasty, biologically active press cake becomes a stable grainy product. The fully automatic climate control system developed by HUBER ensures the optimal use of solar energy and maximises water evaporation. The dry material is generated on the greenhouse end opposite to where the wet sludge is fed. Due to its special design the HUBER SRT sludge turner is able to take the dry sludge into one of its two shovels and transport it back. The shovels are mounted on a special stainless steel half shell, the so-called 'half-pipe'. The dry grainy product is transported back inside the shovel in a 'piggypack' manner. At Lomianki the dry sludge, the volume of which has been reduced to a minimum by drying, falls into a storage bunker from where it can be loaded onto a truck, whereby the 'storage bunker' is actually just a height difference in the drying surface. On the site in Bayreuth the dry material falls into a screw shaft and is removed automatically. Also material discharge is automated. Truck loading times can be minimised to 30 minutes. We are sure the success of the SRT will continue also in 2015. Customers around the world are interested in sustainable, economic and easy technical solutions that are able to make their sewage sludge 'waste' a valuable resource.[...]
[...]Self-cleaning screen for efficient solids retention in stormwater tanks and overflows Efficient solids separation Continuous automatic screen cleaning Defined solids removal For discharges with limited upstream head possibilities Robust, low-maintenance stainless steel design During and after storm events, significant amounts of debris are released into streams, rivers, and lakes through stormwater overflows from combined and sanitary sewer systems. Even with scum baffles installed, these measures often prove insufficient to prevent pollution. Unsightly items such as sanitary products, toilet paper, feces, and plastic materials not only harm the environment but also lead to substantial cleaning and disposal costs. Efforts to improve our collection and drainage systems have been intensified. Particularly vulnerable receiving water bodies and nature conservation areas necessitate more comprehensive and targeted measures for effective stormwater treatment, ensuring their ecological preservation and sustainability. Design and Function The ROTAMAT® RoK1 screen is an ideal solution for solids retention at stormwater discharges, suitable for both new installations and refurbishments. This screen is part of a group of fine screens engineered to handle high flow rates with exceptionally low hydraulic resistance. Its two-dimensional screening design ensures excellent solids retention, while the automatic and gentle cleaning of the perforated plate maintains optimal performance and efficiency. The RoK1 screens are installed horizontally on the downstream side of overflow weirs. A screw flight is mounted within a half-cylinder made of perforated plate. As stormwater flows through the horizontal perforated half-pipe, solids are effectively retained. A rotating screw, equipped with a brush on its flights, moves within the semi-circular screen trough. This action not only cleans the screen but also gently pushes the retained screenings toward the end of the trough for efficient disposal. Installation conditions The RoK1 screen can be installed on either the left or right side of the weir overflow, with standard inclination angles of 0° and 60°.
