Design and function of the HUBER Band Screen DualMax® The HUBER Band Screen DualMax® is a screen with stainless steel screen elements and a flow from the outside to the inside of the channel. The screening elements, available in mesh or perforated plate designs with various separation sizes, are tailored to meet specific requirements. These elements are linked to a chain driven by a motor. The chain is guided along a track in the lower section and a chain wheel at the upper end of the machine, ensuring smooth and reliable operation. During operation, dirt particles accumulate on the screening elements and are transported upward by their motion. A spray nozzle system positioned ahead of the screening elements removes these particles, directing them into an externally positioned launder channel for discharge. Coarse dirt particles that do not stick to the screening elements are also carried upward by additional carrier bars integrated into the screening design. For environmental reasons, the machine can be equipped with fish buckets as an option to protect aquatic life. [...]Prevention of blocking Easy retrofit Sturdy design, reliable operation As stones and large objects present in sewers can damage pumps and the inlet equipment of wastewater treatment plants, such objects have to be removed to ensure reliable operation. Design and Function The HUBER Basket Screen CageLift prevents such blockage, the entanglement of debris and damage of equipment as it removes the material. The screen can be installed in a manhole prior to pumps, the size depending on the inflow rate and depth. The sturdy, stable basket screen with bar spacing from 20mm to 80mm retains the floating debris at the sewer outlet. The screen bottom plate is perforated to allow static dewatering of the retained material. When a certain amount of material has accumulated, the screen basket is lifted upwards by an electric chain hoist. The vertical basket movement is supported by a stable carrier and guide rails. These rails are curved in the upper section to ensure a partly automatic discharge into a suitable container. [...]Sheboygan, WI, USA A new HUBER Belt Dryer project is on the way in the USA. A BT 18 dryer for a throughput of 11,700 t/a will be installed at Sheboygan in the US state Wisconsin. HUBER SE could win the order already in July 2012. We were commissioned to supply not only the belt drying plant, our scope of delivery includes also a HUBER Screw Press Q-PRESS®, size 800 for sludge dewatering. The HUBER Belt Dryer we supply to Sheboygan will be the first installation of the new dryer generation in the USA. The plant conception excels for its excellent energy efficiency and a high level of safety. The low electrical energy demand is achieved primarily through the new control concept and the so-called "helix air flow" which ensures that the process air streams through the drying chambers as a spiral air flow. As the air is reheated in each chamber, its load capacity can be utilized to the maximum. This means that only that amount of air needs to be moved through the dryer which is actually used for drying. Much smaller drives are therefore sufficient for the ventilators and also the exhaust air treatment system can be dimensioned very small so that a lot of operating costs can be saved. Especially the feeding system of the dryer ensures a reliable plant operation. The sewage sludge extruder, also called pelletizer, presses the sludge and produces spaghetti-like sludge strands with a defined surface-volume ratio. As the sludge keeps its form during drying it is possible to avoid the highest safety risk involved with the operation of belt dryers, namely the production of dust. To facilitate the installation work to be carried out on site the dryer will be pre-assembled in the factory and delivered as only few individual parts. It has been determined that two-dimensional perforations are better than one-dimensional slits. Formation of screenings rolls is prevented by rake bars extending over the full width of the screen in combination with the screen‘s installation angle. Even cans and bottles are lifted by these rakes. Design and Function The HUBER Belt Screen EscaMax® operates with a filter belt, where each element is connected to a drive chain. These chains are powered by chain wheels, which in turn are driven by sprockets on a common shaft connected to a flange-mounted gear motor. As the filter belt moves, it passes over an upper turning point. At this stage, the screening elements are cleaned by an internal spray nozzle bar, which operates in the opposite direction of the screening flow to effectively dislodge and remove collected debris. This self-cleaning mechanism ensures continuous, efficient operation with minimal maintenance. Good sludge thickening is required as a prerequisite for the efficient further treatment of sewage sludge, for example in digesters, and is also necessary where liquid sewage sludge is transported to further treatment steps or utilisation. Large-dimensioned mixing and balancing tanks are beneficial but can frequently not be installed due to lack of space. Besides, the investments costs are high for the tanks and the accessory equipment required, such as circulation pumps and aeration systems for homogenisation.
