[...]On May 22, the news station n-tv for the fourth time awarded its „Hidden Champion“ for outstanding middle-sized companies. HUBER SE convinced the jury in the category "sustainability". HUBER could win this category as its company management vision places particular focus on sustainability. The company's strategic approaches are not focused on short-term profit maximisation but on healthy growth and job security. CEO Georg Huber travelled to Frankfurt where he was presented with the award within the Global Business Week event. "Sustainable development does not only refer to economy but also to ecology and social aspects. It is always these three factors we must have in mind". Georg Huber manages the company in the sixth generation already and continues to pursue the sustainability idea as the generations before him had done. It is finally one of the most important resources that plays the main role in the company's business: our water. The technologies HUBER offers provide modern, economical and efficient solutions for wastewater and sludge treatment. The goal is to save energy and resources and ideally recover them. Environmentally sound acting plays a major role already in the production process. For Georg Huber these goals are just natural and a matter of course. He is therefore all the more happy to receive such honours. The prize is regularly awarded to owner-operated companies exclusively that are based in Germany. "It is no secret that middle-sized companies are the backbone of the Germany economy. Much less known are the enterprisers and their employees who contribute every day with their work. [...]The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology has again announced the 50 strongest growing medium-sized companies for this year. The Bavarian environmental company HUBER SE is one of them. Companies who want to make it to the top 50 must have achieved an above average increase in their number of employees and turnover in the past years. Bavarian Economics Minister Ilse Aigner pointed out that the "Bavarian economy could never be as dynamic and innovative as it is without the outstanding performance of Bavaria's medium-sized companies. Nearly 40% of the total turnover subject to tax in Bavaria are generated by small and medium-sized companies, they provide new jobs and guarantee the high living standard we enjoy in Bavaria", she said. CEO Georg Huber was handed over the award in the Munich Residenz on 29 July 2014 and was happy and proud to be honoured in this way: "It is a special honour to belong to the best in the best German Federal Land, an honour all our employees can be very proud of. [...]The German Family Business Association has announced the winners of the "Bavarian family business of the year" award. In the category of sustainability, the award has been won by the HUBER SE Company. For the association jury, HUBER SE is a flagship for the Bavarian economy. With more than 35,000 water treatment systems installed worldwide, the Berching based business is one of the most important international companies in this sector. "In times of scarce resources and ecological disasters, the economical use of water and the proper treatment of industrial wastewater is becoming increasingly important," commented jury spokesman Dr Walter Schmidt. This is where Huber is conducting pioneering work. The jury was particularly impressed by the work of the Huber Technology Foundation, which promotes awareness of water as a resource amongst young international engineers. "Companies like HUBER SE are excellent examples of how family companies fully assume their social responsibility," commented Dr Schmidt, on behalf of the jury. "Sustainability is not an empty promise, but plays a central role in operational practice." The prize of a Nymphenburg porcelain statue was accepted by Georg Huber, Chairman of HUBER SE. Commenting at the Bavarian Family Business Congress in Nuremberg he said that, "the award is a great honour for me and my staff. [...]HUBER proves its commitment to the location Berching. The company emphasizes the high importance of its headquarters and local production facilities for the company's further business success and has again invested into the expansion of it production capacities. Due to the necessity to meet the challenges of the present and future growth, another building project has been finished which provides additional production capacities. The official inauguration ceremony took place on October 28, 2014 in the presence of representatives of the board of directors, supervisory board, works council and guests of honour from politics and economy. Ludwig Eisenreich, mayor of Berching, proudly reflected in this speech all the company's building projects that have been completed in the past with unfailing regularity. Since 1992, numerous building permissions (see box) for the expansion of office and production capacities at Berching have been issued: "Berching needs visionaries like the Huber family". The municipality would be glad to provide the infrastructure required for such exemplary entrepreneurship, he said. Willibald Gailler, head of the district authority, and state secretary Albert Füracker expressed their thanks for HUBER's loyalty to the location Berching, the company's innovativeness and local social engagement. The new production hall received a blessing from the Berching parish priest Arthur Wechsler. Now as this new hall has been completed the company's production capacities have grown by another 2,200 m² and 40 additional work places. This latest project has been the logical consequence of the company's previous building measures. Vice CEO Dr. Oliver Rong, responsible for engineering & production, added that the new hall has been planned and built with a special focus on improving working conditions and energy efficiency. The hall has therefore a modern concrete floor which allows for low-vibration transports with forklifts and lifting trucks. Furthermore, the hall is equipped with modern LED lamps for better illumination and significantly reduced energy consumption. With this new production hall HUBER is able to further manufacture competitive wastewater products at the location Berching and has laid the foundations for the company's continued success. [...]On July 5, politicians of the administrative district Neumarkt visited HUBER SE under the heading of “Innovation Exchange – Politics Meets Business”, among them State Minister Albert Füracker, head of the district authority Willibald Gailler and the mayor of Berching, Ludwig Eisenreich. On that occasion, they attended also the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of HUBER's production hall by another 2,600 square metres. Albert Füracker and Ludwig Eisenreich congratulated HUBER on the new plant extension and promised to contribute their part to make the local living environment as attractive as possible to counter the problem of progressing skills shortage in the region. Dr. Rong gave a brief overview of the company history dating back to the year 1786, especially referring to the milestones in the company’s product portfolio. Dr. Rong further added: “HUBER employs presently about 700 people at its Berching headquarters and about 1200 worldwide. This makes HUBER one of the most successful and innovative medium-sized companies that are 100% in the hands of the family.”. Chief Sales Officer Rainer Köhler then presented the current topics sewage sludge disposal and microplastics filtration. HUBER offers innovative solutions for both fields, including phosphorus recovery through sewage sludge incineration. To illustrate this, he presented an example of calculation for the town of Neumarkt. “We have the technologies that can solve the current problems, now it is up to the municipalities to use them”, he concluded and invited everyone to now put the spades in the ground. With the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the production hall at the headquarters at Erasbach, the environmental company is taking another step forward in persuing its development concept, increasing its capacities in final assembly and improving the flexibility of the dispatch department. After completion in September 2018, the new production facility will also provide the possibility to receive customers for factory acceptance of HUBER machines.[...]

[...]Ecological awareness is an inherent part of our corporate philosophy. Responsibility for the environment and society: Our products and services contribute to protecting the environment and we are committed to ensuring that our products and services act in accordance with the principles of sustainability. It is our aim to meet the social responsibility our company has. As a manufacturing company we need a variety of machine tools to manufacture our products. In our production halls we use several turning lathes, trimming presses, laser cutting machines, etc. All these machines need electric power so that the annual current consumption of HUBER SE amounts to about 3,400,000 kWh. This is an enormous amount, approximately equivalent to the average annual consumption of 1,000 private households. Depending on how the electricity is produced, more or less CO2 is generated or even no CO 2 at all. In Europe, on average approximately 430 g CO2 per 1 kWh current are emitted (mixed European electricity). If we calculate our annual current demand on the basis of this average CO 2 reference, the result is approximately 1500 t annual CO 2 production. It would take more than 100,000 trees to compensate this emission. We have therefore decided to use 100% green electricity from January 2014 on. This will help us to take a big step forward in our efforts for more environmental and climate protection. We will purchase our green electricity from the Austrian supplier "Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG". They produce the green electricity exclusively in small and big water power plants in Austria. This has been certified by the Technical Inspection Authority (TÜV). The use of electricity from water power helps us save 1500 t of CO 2 per year. This is an active contribution to reducing the emission of climate-damaging gases. We will nevertheless continue to do everything to use electric power as efficiently as possible. The use of green electricity will be no excuse for us to stop our efforts to save energy.[...]
