HUBER Vortex Grit Chamber VORMAX Grit separation through constant rotation and tangential feed introduction

Design and Function

Grit separation in the HUBER Vortex Grit Chamber VORMAX begins in the inlet channel to the grit trap. Similar to an unaerated longitudinal grit trap, grit settles at the bottom of the channel and is carried into the circular grit trap by the flow of wastewater. The curved design of the concrete tank (typically customer-provided) creates a tangential rotational movement, facilitating the separation process.
A continuously rotating stirrer assists in maintaining consistent wastewater circulation within the grit chamber, ensuring stable rotational velocity across the entire system, even under fluctuating hydraulic conditions. This steady radial rotation, driven by secondary flow near the bottom, quickly directs solids to the center of the grit chamber, where they settle at the bottom of the grit collection tank. The grit-free wastewater then exits the system and moves on to the next treatment stage.
Centrifugal or self-priming grit pumps transport the collected solids from the grit collection tank to a grit classifier or grit washer, where they are further separated, dewatered, and any organic particles are removed.
