Design and Function

The rotating high-performance screening drum is designed for demanding applications, offering reliable, clog-free solids transport through forced material guidance within the drum. This ensures high throughput, even with challenging materials such as wet wipes, grease, and stones. The solids are then washed and dewatered using a subsequent HUBER Wash Press WAP® for efficient screenings treatment.

During the pre-washing and homogenization of the raw material within the HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plant, wash water is added to facilitate the process. The perforated plate of the wash drum retains particles larger than the perforations, which are then delivered for further treatment.

As only coarse material larger than the perforation size is separated, the volume of the resulting residues is significantly reduced. As an option, grit material can then be treated further in the downstream HUBER Coanda Grit Washer RoSF4. The coarse material can then be further separated into a mineral and organic fraction by means of a coarse material washer.

With flexible feeding options, space-saving design, and efficient vehicle emptying, the RotaShield® is ideal for wastewater treatment plants seeking reliable, high-performance solutions.

Key Features and Benefits of the HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plant RotaShield®:

  • Rotating High-Performance Screening Drum
The rotating drum is designed to handle the most challenging sludge materials, ensuring efficient and reliable separation of coarse materials, such as large debris, grit, and other contaminants.
  • Efficient and Reliable Coarse Material Separation
The system is built to separate coarse materials from septic sludge with high efficiency. This ensures that the sludge is properly treated and free from larger materials that could cause issues downstream in the treatment process.
  • High Solids Throughput
Even with problematic materials that are typically difficult to process, the RotaShield® delivers high solids throughput, ensuring that the plant can handle large volumes of septic sludge without compromising performance.
  • Forced Guided Material Transport
The design of the plant includes forced guided material transport, which helps to direct the flow of sludge and ensure consistent material separation. This mechanism minimizes blockages and ensures continuous, efficient operation.
  • Suitable for Any Type of Septic Sludge
The HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plant RotaShield® is versatile and capable of handling any type of septic sludge, making it suitable for a variety of treatment applications in wastewater treatment plants.
  • Reliable Separation of All Disturbing Material
The system offers reliable separation of all disturbing materials, ensuring that only clean, processed sludge is passed on for further treatment or disposal.
  • Dependable and Reliable Operation
Designed for dependable and reliable operation, the RotaShield® provides long-term, high-performance treatment with minimal maintenance, making it a valuable asset in wastewater treatment facilities.

Benefits of the HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plant RotaShield®:

  • High Solids Throughput
Handles problematic materials such as rags, wet wipes, grease, and stones efficiently.
High solids throughput of up to 6 t/hr (6 m³/h), ensuring that even large volumes of material can be processed without compromising performance.
  • High Hydraulic Capacity
The system operates effectively even with high solids contents, ensuring consistent throughput and reliable operation.
  • Trouble-Free Operation
No auger is used to transport the screened material, reducing the risk of blockages or operational issues.
The system is designed for minimal wear and requires less maintenance than traditional systems with augers.
  • Defined Separation Size
The plant features two-dimensional screening, allowing for a defined separation size of materials, ranging from 3 to 10 mm, which ensures effective separation of coarse materials.
  • Flexible Feeding Options
Feeding can be done via a conveyor, launder channel, or pressure line, providing flexibility to integrate the system into various setups.
  • Efficient and Compact Design
The compact, space-saving design allows for easy installation in various treatment plant layouts.
The unit is completely encased, preventing odor issues and ensuring that it can be placed in areas where space is limited.
  • Minimal Wear & Low Maintenance
The design minimizes wear and requires less maintenance compared to traditional systems, ensuring long-term reliability.
  • Low Energy Demand
The system has a low energy demand, making it an eco-friendly and cost-effective option for wastewater treatment plants.
  • Corrosion Resistance
The plant is constructed from high corrosion-resistant materials, ensuring durability and extended service life, even in harsh environments
  • High Separation Efficiency
The 3 to 10 mm separation size provides efficient separation of coarse material, improving overall system performance.
  • Optimized for Vehicle Emptying
Short tanker vehicle emptying times and the optional simultaneous emptying of multiple vehicles make the system convenient for handling large volumes of sludge with minimal downtime.
  • Screened Wastewater Reuse
The screened wastewater can be used as wash water, adding an extra layer of efficiency to the system and reducing the need for additional water supply.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Faecal sludge is the sewage sludge from domestic sewage treatment plants. Faecal sludge usually consists of wastewater with a concentrated content of faeces, food waste, toilet paper, sanitary products as well as mineral components.

For the treatment of faecal sludge, a multi-stage system consisting of coarse screen and grit trap can be useful before the faecal sludge is discharged into the sewage treatment plant.

Wherever residential buildings are not connected to a sewer system but use a decentralised domestic sewage treatment plant, faecal sludge accumulates.

This faecal sludge is disposed of via collection vehicles and transported to a central sewage treatment plant or a special faecal sludge processing facility for treatment. The collection vehicles usually empty the faecal sludge into special receptions stations, also referred to as sludge acceptance plants.

Using a sludge acceptance unit before the faecal sludge is fed into the wastewater treatment plant will clean the raw material from undesired matter, such as sanitary products and plastic articles, etc. This cleaning is necessary to keep the load on the sewage treatment plant resulting from the introduced faecal sludge as low as possible.
