Design and Function

The wastewater first passes through an inlet screen that retains, washes, compacts, and dewaters the solids within the flow. The screened wastewater then flows at a right angle into an aerated grit trap tank, where it generates a spiral flow. Integrated air tubes enhance the spiral flow, keeping organic particles in suspension. At the same time, grease and similar substances float to the surface within the grit trap.
Next, the flow enters a second unaerated upflow grit chamber, which includes an integral Hydro Duct that ensures a directed flow from the bottom with a positive and uniform upflow distribution. The flow velocity in this chamber is reduced, allowing very fine grit to settle at the bottom, while fats, oil and grease (FOG) rises to the surface, where it is automatically removed by a reliable paddle system. The particles separated in both chambers are removed by classifying screws or grit pumps and are simultaneously dewatered or washed in a grit washer before being discharged into a dumpster.
As an option, the separated grit trap material can be washed in the Complete Plant. In this case, a horizontal grit conveyor transports the separated grit directly to a grit washer integrated at the plant's outlet.
To ensure efficient separation, upwardly directed service water fluidizes the grit in the lower part of the grit washer, enabling lighter organic particles to separate from the dense grit. This separation is aided by a stirrer. After the organic material is removed, the clean grit is automatically discharged via a classifying screw, statically dewatered, and sent to a container.
