Textile and Leather Industry

Wastewater and sludge treatment for the production and processing of textiles and leather

  • Save disposal costs
  • Clean wastewater
  • Minimise residues
  • Separate solids
  • Reduce operating costs
  • Recover wastewater heat
  • Save primary energy

Wastewater and sludge treatment in textile and leather production is essential for managing the high levels of solids (particularly fibers and hair), color, and organic loads (BOD and COD) present in their effluents. These pollutants not only lead to substantial disposal and pollution charges but also pose environmental challenges if not adequately treated.

It is therefore economical to reduce these loads on site to such a degree that the wastewater can be discharged to the public sewer system or even directly into a water course without having to pay fees for heavy pollution.

While small plants only have to separate solids, larger facilities also reduce the COD and BOD loads. Due to the large water consumption, it is often economical to treat the wastewater so well that it can be recirculated as process water.

HUBER's robust, tailor-made solutions make wastewater and sludge management not only feasible but beneficial, aligning industrial processes with modern environmental and economic standards. This approach provides a clear path to sustainability and efficiency, crucial for the textile and leather industries facing increasingly stringent environmental regulations and cost pressures.

  • Mechanical Pre-Treatment of process water or wastewater with HUBER Complete Plant ROTAMAT® Ro5: This stage removes larger solids and settleable materials (e.g., grit) from the wastewater. The integrated grit chamber allows for thorough separation, while the HUBER Grit Washerfurther cleans the separated grit, reducing organics.
  • Fine Screening: After primary treatment, theHUBER Fine Screenfilters out smaller particles, such as fibers and hair, ensuring finer particulate removal to prepare the wastewater for subsequent stages.
  • Chemical-Physical Treatment: TheHUBER Dissolved Air Flotation Plant HDFenhances cleaning by separating solids and grease into flotate sludge, which reduces BOD and COD concentrations, allowing the effluent to meet public sewer discharge standards.
  • Sludge Thickening and Dewatering: HUBER Thickeners and HUBER Screw Pressesenable thickening and dewatering of flotate and excess sludge, reducing its volume and associated disposal costs.
  • Heat Recovery: The HUBER Heat Exchanger RoWincaptures heat from high-temperature wastewater. This recovered heat can preheat process water or be used for building heating, reducing the need for additional energy.

As one of the world's leading suppliers, we also solve your wastewater treatment challenges with our reliable and tailored approach, helping industries meet compliance goals and drive operational savings.
