Efficient solutions for cost-effective sludge disposal and utilization
Sludge is produced during municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, and many other industrial processes also generate sludge as well. This sludge can either be recycled or disposed of.
The more sludge is produced, the higher the requirements for wastewater treatment. Primary treatment separates solids contained in the raw sewage – this is called the primary sludge. Excess sludge is the separated biomass from the biological treatment stage - this is called the secondary sludge. Tertiary sludge is generated by additional advanced chemical/physical treatment.
The existing and future challenge in sludge treatment is to treat the generated sludge with further process steps as cost-effectively and energy-efficiently as possible that safe disposal or even economic use is possible. The objectives of sustainable environmental management have to be reconciled with economic aspects and practical solutions for the operator onsite.
HUBER has the right machines and plant technology for tailor-made solutions for all stages of sludge treatment:
Mechanical sludge treatment: removal of coarse material and other solids, thickening and dewatering of sludge to reduce volume.
Sludge drying: thermal processes for partial or complete drying of sludge as a prerequisite for safe and economic sludge disposal or recovery.
