Safe working in manholes – safe opening and access
Manholes fulfill an important task in water supply and wastewater disposal. They are used where shut-off fittings in pipelines must be accessible, to control sections of very long pipelines, for aeration/deaeration, or access to complex installations (e.g. well shafts, pressure reduction shafts).
Easy and safe access must be ensured in each individual application.
Most of the manholes are entered from the top. This means that the operating personnel must open the manhole cover in order to be able to use an entrance aid for safe access. They must move above the manhole opening already when opening the cover.

After opening the manhole cover, there is a high risk of falling down into the manhole. Therefore, it is recommended to install a guard grate. With the HUBER Guard Grate you are well-protected. - HUBER Safety Access Ladders:
To ensure easy and safe descent into the shaft, a safety ladder is usually installed. According to the Accident Prevention Regulations (UVV), fall protection is mandatory from a fall height of 118 in. / 3 m or 197 in. / 5 m.
