[...]Berching, Germany The ships of the Endeavor series are the worldwide biggest mega yachts with ice class PC6. They allow expeditions to paradisiacal islands that would be impossible with conventional cruise ships. Main travel destinations are the Arctic, Antarctic and the Caribbean. The ship ‘Crystal Endeavor’ will for the first time set sail in 2020 and take its maximum 200 passengers in 100 exclusive suites to the most remote corners of the world. Two HUBER Membrane Screen ROTAMAT ® RoMem 780 units with 0,5 mm mesh size will be installed on the ship to clean the wastewater from the cabins. The two HUBER fine screens are already standing in the hull of the ‘Crystal Endeavor’ at MV WERFTEN in Stralsund where the ship is being built. Together with the planning office, located in Pole, Great Britain, we have developed a special solution that is perfectly adapted to the requirements of a ship. As everyone knows, the space on a ship is scarce. The focus of the shipbuilding wharf was on providing as much space and comfort as possible for the passengers. The biggest challenge in this project was therefore to elaborate a solution for our customers that is space-saving but does not impair the optimal function of our machines. Due to the very good and open collaboration with the planning office and the customer, we have already received a new order for four HUBER Membrane Screen ROTAMAT ® RoMem units for two other ships. Design and Function A preceding flocculation reactor with stirrer ensures efficient sludge treatment in the HUBER Screw Thickener S-DRUM. On a stand area of 1,100 m² HUBER will show a number of technology highlights in the form of real machines and plants, videos, animations and true to detail models. Experienced HUBER specialists will be available for advice for all national and international customers. One of the major topics for HUBER is digitalisation. By the example of implemented installations and projects – screens, sludge treatment plants and after-sales service – HUBER will give concrete examples that show the possibilities of digitalisation in the field of wastewater and sludge treatment and the enormous potential for future development towards Water 4.0. Sludge Treatment The worldwide successfully operated HUBER Screw Press Q-PRESS ® will present itself in three design sizes at IFAT 2018. In the category of sustainability, the award has been won by the HUBER SE Company. For the association jury, HUBER SE is a flagship for the Bavarian economy. With more than 35,000 water treatment systems installed worldwide, the Berching based business is one of the most important international companies in this sector. "In times of scarce resources and ecological disasters, the economical use of water and the proper treatment of industrial wastewater is becoming increasingly important," commented jury spokesman Dr Walter Schmidt. This is where Huber is conducting pioneering work. The jury was particularly impressed by the work of the Huber Technology Foundation, which promotes awareness of water as a resource amongst young international engineers. "Companies like HUBER SE are excellent examples of how family companies fully assume their social responsibility," commented Dr Schmidt, on behalf of the jury. [...]Induction event over several days for the best possible start As the new training year begins, 23 apprentices and three dual-study students are starting their careers at HUBER SE. As part of a multi-day induction programme, the new recruits will familiarise themselves with the company, its employees and the Berching site, and gain an in-depth understanding of their future working environment. The new apprentices are spread across the following disciplines: seven in metalworking, three in mechatronics engineering, one in environmental technology specialising in wastewater management, two in industrial business administration, two in technical product design and one in plant mechanics at the Berlin/Waßmannsdorf service site. Additionally, two female students are beginning a dual degree programme in Bio- and Environmental Process Engineering at the East Bavarian University of Applied Sciences in Amberg-Weiden, while one student is starting an Industrial Engineering programme at the DHBW Mannheim. [...]In the Colombian city Medellín the new sewage treatment plant Bello (pronounced Bejo ) is presently under construction. The plant is designed for 2.75 million PE and a capacity of 6.5 m³/s. To treat the sewage sludge that is generated on site the environmental company in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria installed the well-proven HUBER Belt Dryer BT for this international mega project. A daily amount of 400 tons of dewatered sewage sludge is generated in Bello, of which approximately 310 tons are produced on site and another 90 tons come from a second sewage treatment plant in the city centre of Medellín, San Fernando. The sludge from San Fernando is transported to Bello by trucks. The according constructions and devices for transport, acceptance and storage will be provided. The plant operator Empresas Publicas de Medellín (EPM) placed the focus on a sustainable and economical disposal of the generated sewage sludge. Several technological concepts were analysed and tested under the prevailing conditions. The concept that was finally selected combines power-heat cogeneration with sewage sludge drying. HUBER SE participated in the tender for the project as the consortium manager in cooperation with a renowned Colombian plant manufacturer. The tender specification included the turnkey erection, engineering, construction and operation of the plant. After evaluation of the submitted technical and commercial offers the order was placed with the consortium under the management of HUBER in August this year. At the end of 2012 already, HUBER could secure the order for the supply, installation and commissioning of the complete mechanical equipment for the preliminary wastewater treatment. Due to references like this one and numerous successfully operating similar installations in the field of thermal sewage sludge treatment HUBER could convince the customer to be the right partner for this prestigious project. The total order value of the project is more than 50 million US dollar. The construction time will be only 22 months. The consortium will then also operate the plant for a certain period of time. Load-dependently controlled gas turbines which are supplied by the consortium will generate the electric power for the operation of this sewage treatment plant. The exhaust heat generated in this process will be used to dry the sewage sludge in the HUBER Belt Dryer. This solution is another step towards an energy-optimised operation of the complete sewage treatment plant. Excess energy is fed to the public grid. Perfectly matched state-of-the-art technologies and fully automated electrical control systems and process control systems are applied in this project. The concept implemented here for the utilisation of sewage sludge is path-breaking not only for Latin America, also in Germany it can serve as an innovative solution with downstream thermal sludge utilisation and phosphorus recovery under the aspect of the upcoming amendment of the Sewage Sludge Ordinance.
