Residential and commercial real estate

Heating and cooling with wastewater as a regenerative energy source

Buildings play an important role in the fight against the threat of climate change. Worldwide, real estate is one of the largest consumers of fossil fuels, which are used for heating and cooling, among other things. Rising living standards and the overall increase in population will cause consumption to rise further if we do not succeed in improving energy efficiency.

In addition to the right choice of building materials and good thermal insulation, the most important thing is to choose the right system for heating and cooling.

HUBER has solutions that allow to use the wastewater in the sewer station as a regenerative energy source.

Wastewater heat exchanger in combination with heat pump

Particularly efficient solutions can be achieved with heat pumps that draw energy from the wastewater and not from the outside air. Since wastewater is significantly warmer in winter and significantly colder in summer than the outside air, the heat pump can be operated with a higher degree of efficiency.

The core of the entire process is a HUBER Heat Exchanger RoWin, which extracts energy from the wastewater, combined with a heat pump, which raises the energy for heating to a higher temperature level and thus makes it usable for larger buildings.

Wastewater heat pumps can not only be used for heating buildings and the water in large buildings, but are also suitable for cooling rooms during the warmer months of the year. The heat pump works in reverse, i.e. it extracts heat from the building and transfers it to the wastewater with the help of the HUBER Heat Exchanger RoWin.

Large properties near large sewers or the sewage treatment plant

A prerequisite for using wastewater as a regenerative energy source is a sufficient amount of wastewater. For this reason, property locations that are close to large sewers or sewage treatment plants are particularly advantageous.

Suitable buildings are all properties that have a high heating and/or cooling demand, such as hotels, shopping centres, administrative buildings, schools, homes, housing estates, industrial buildings, hospitals, swimming pools.

Heating and cooling with wastewater: HUBER has the right solutions for heating and cooling large buildings using wastewater energy from the sewage system or wastewater treatment plant.
