The first stage of wastewater treatment is the mechanical treatment stage, also known as mechanical pre-treatment or mechanical wastewater treatment. Here, mechanical processes are applied to remove pollutants from the wastewater. The following machines, plants and structures are used in these mechanical processes:
- Screens for the separation of organic and inorganic larger solids
- Grit chambers for the separation of grit and mineral substances
- Sedimentation tanks, so-called primary clarifiers, for the separation of finer solid wastewater components or, alternatively, special screening machines replacing the primary clarifier, such as the HUBER Drum Screen LIQUID.
