Screens and screening solutions for water extraction

Reliable water intake systems for open waters

HUBER offers its customers a comprehensive portfolio of innovative mechanical treatment systems for water intakes, for both new plants and the modernisation of existing plants. The systems are customised to the individual needs and the required water quality of each project.

Customers benefit from our decades of expertise for particularly stable and reliable fully automated machines with the best hydraulic properties for maximum separation rates. Depending on the application and installation situation, our solutions include multi-stage screens and screening systems that are optimally matched to each other.

Process Technology

HUBER solution for water intake

Preliminary screening

Preliminary screening is the first step in any water extraction process to remove large to medium-sized pollutants of more than 10 millimetres, such as leaves, tree trunks, plastic containers, plastic film, debris, seaweed and jellyfish. Mainly grab screens and multi-rake bar screens are used for this purpose.

Fine screening

For the removal of fine contaminants in the range of 1-10 millimetres, self-cleaning fully automatic belt filter screens are mainly used. They are suitable for filtering large flow rates in a water intake with a relatively fine degree of filtration. Depending on the required clean water quality of the downstream processes, the screen elements are equipped with filter mesh or with perforated plate. This ensures optimum reliability with maximum efficiency. HUBER belt filter screens are available in all sizes, layouts and for all flow rates. Depending on the flow direction, a distinction is made between

  • HUBER Band Screen CenterMax®: Screen of the "centre-flow" type. The filter elements are installed parallel to the flow direction of the water intake and move vertically. The water flows from the inside to the outside.
  • HUBER Band Screen DualMax®: Screen of the "dual flow" type. The filter elements are installed parallel to the flow direction of the water intake and move vertically. The water flows from the outside to the inside.
  • HUBER Band Screen DiscMax®:Screen of the "through-flow" type. The filter elements are installed in the direction of flow and move vertically. The water flows in a straight line through the filter belt screen.

Micro screening

For applications requiring high purity and removal of finest particles in the range of a few micromillimetres, such as mussel larvae, a micro screen is available as an option.

Shut-off devices

In addition to screen technology, HUBER also supplies shutoff devices as penstocks and stop logs for regulating water flows during water abstraction and for maintenance of water intake infrastructures. The stop logs and penstocks withstand highest water pressures and have a high load capacity even with hard and bulky debris in the water.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Machines with a steep installation angle are best suited for such applications.

This screen installation option allows the installation space to be very compact, especially in the direction of flow.

Typical examples are our HUBER Multi-Rake Bar Screens RakeMax® and RakeMax® CF as well as the HUBER Belt Screen EscaMax®, HUBER Coarse Screen TrashMax® and HUBER Grab Screen TrashLift.
